Policy
Buyer Protection
Effective [Effective date on launch]
All purchases through UDrop are covered by Buyer Protection. Pay in the app, confirm with your pickup code, and your money is protected until the item is in your hands. Here’s exactly what that means.
Policy terms are set; this page should be reviewed by counsel before the Buyer Protection fee label is enabled in Admin → Payments.
1.What Buyer Protection is
Every purchase paid through UDrop is covered by Buyer Protection. Your money is held by UDrop and released to the seller only after you confirm the handoff with your pickup code. If the item never changes hands, or it turns out to be materially different from the listing, you get your money back.
Pay only through UDrop. Payments made outside the app (cash, Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, PayPal or anything else) are not covered, and asking for them violates the Terms of Service. If a seller asks you to pay another way, decline and report the listing.
2.You’re covered when
- The item never changes hands. If you cancel before entering your pickup code, or the seller cancels, you get a full refund of the item price, the payment processing fee and any sales tax. Nothing to claim; it happens automatically.
- The seller goes quiet. If the seller hasn’t arranged a pickup within 7 days of payment, you can cancel for a full refund at any time before pickup.
- The item is significantly not as described. Wrong item, a fake, undisclosed damage that affects use, missing essential parts, or a condition clearly worse than the listing’s stated condition and photos. File a claim within 48 hours of confirming pickup.
- Bundles. If one item in a bundle has a problem, the claim covers that item; the rest of the bundle stands.
3.Canceling and changing the price
Agreed on a lower price when you met? The seller taps Adjust price on the order, you accept on your screen, and the difference (with its share of fee and tax) is refunded automatically. The sale stays protected and your pickup code completes it. Don’t cancel and pay cash; that purchase would have no protection, wouldn’t count as a sale, and counts against both accounts.
- Canceling before pickup: pick a reason and you’re refunded the item price and tax. The payment processing fee is refunded too, unless the seller had already confirmed a meetup time.
- Sellers who cancel paid orders three times in 90 days have Buy now and Smart Sell paused for 30 days, and canceled sales show on their profile.
4.You’re not covered when
- You inspected and accepted the item at pickup and it matches the listing. “Fair” means fair; minor wear that was disclosed or visible in the photos is not a defect.
- You changed your mind, it doesn’t fit, or your plans changed after you confirmed pickup.
- The item was damaged after the handoff.
- You paid outside UDrop, or you shared your pickup code before the item was in your hands.
- The item is prohibited under the Terms of Service.
- You filed after the 48-hour window, or didn’t provide the photos or details UDrop asked for within 3 days.
5.How to make a claim
- Message the seller first. Most problems are a misunderstanding and get sorted in the conversation. Keep everything in UDrop messages so there is a record.
- Report the problem from the transaction (Profile → Transactions → the order → Report a problem) within 48 hours of confirming pickup, or email support@udrop.co with the order number.
- Add evidence. Clear photos of the issue and of any labels or serials. Keep the item exactly as received while the claim is open; don’t clean, repair, use or dispose of it.
- UDrop decides within 3 business days. We review the listing, photos, messages and pickup record, and may ask the seller for their account. The seller’s payout stays on hold while a claim is open.
Remedies are a full or partial refund to your original payment method (or UDrop Balance if you paid with it). UDrop doesn’t ship returns; when an item should go back, both sides agree on a public meetup and UDrop releases the refund when the seller confirms they have it.
6.How refunds work
Refunds go back to the way you paid: your card within 5–10 business days depending on your bank, or your UDrop Balance immediately.
- Full refund: item price, payment processing fee and sales tax are all returned.
- Partial refund: fee and tax are refunded in proportion to the item price refunded. Your receipt shows the breakdown.
If your bank opens a chargeback instead, UDrop pauses the seller’s payout and works through the bank’s process; you won’t receive a second refund from UDrop while a chargeback is open.
7.What buyers pay
Buyers pay the item price, sales tax where it applies, and a payment processing fee that covers card processing. Buyer Protection is included at no charge. The fee is shown before you pay and refunded with the item when a purchase is refunded. It never goes to the seller.
8.For sellers
Describe honestly, photograph flaws, and only enter the buyer’s pickup code once they have the item. A completed pickup with an accurate listing is the end of the sale; claims are decided on the listing, photos and messages, so good listings protect you too. See Selling on UDrop.
9.Staying safe at pickup
Inspect before you confirm. Meet somewhere public and well lit, bring a friend for big items, and never share your pickup code until the item is in your hands. See the Safety page.
10.Changes to this policy
UDrop may update Buyer Protection prospectively. The version in effect when you paid governs that purchase; a copy is linked from your receipt. Questions: support@udrop.co.
