Safety

Buy and sell with common sense built in.

UDrop is designed around local campus communities and straightforward peer-to-peer exchange. Here is what the product does, and what we ask of you.

Built in

Protection that’s on by default.

  • Payment held until pickup

Buyers pay through UDrop. Sellers are paid only after the buyer confirms with a one-time code. Cancel before pickup and the buyer is refunded in full.

  • Verified students

Verify with a campus email or a photo of your student ID to earn a badge. Everyone has a profile, and listings belong to one campus community.

  • Ratings tied to real sales

Buyer and seller rate each other after a completed pickup. No free-floating reviews.

  • Messaging that stays on UDrop

Phone numbers, emails, payment apps and links are blocked in chat, listings and display names.

  • Report and block

Report a listing or a person from any page. Blocked users can’t see your listings or message you.

  • Moderation

Reports go to a review queue. Listings can be removed, accounts suspended, and admin actions are logged.

Payment protection

Money moves only when the item does.

The buyer’s payment is held by UDrop until they confirm pickup with their code. Sellers can’t be stiffed; buyers can’t be left empty-handed.

Verified students

Know who you’re meeting before you meet.

Students verify with a campus email or a photo of their student ID and earn a badge. Ratings only come from completed pickups, so a profile tells you how someone actually trades.

Meeting up

Where the hand-off happens.

  • Students meeting up with a laundry basket

    Meet where it makes sense

Public spots for small items. For furniture at an apartment: daylight, a friend, and a heads-up to someone.

  • Coffee maker and small appliances on a counter

    Check it before you confirm

Plug it in, turn it on, look it over. Your code is the last step, not the first.

  • A bicycle against a brick wall

    Walk away paid, or refunded

The payout releases on your code; cancel before pickup and the buyer is refunded.

Contact guard

Nobody has to share a phone number.

Trying to move the conversation off UDrop is the most common first step in a scam. Contact details and payment apps are blocked in chat, so the protection stays intact.

Your part

What we ask of you.

  • Meet somewhere sensible

For small items, public spots work best: student unions, library entrances, lobbies. Furniture usually means an apartment pickup, so go in daylight, bring a friend, and tell someone where you’re going.

  • Inspect before you confirm

Turn it on, plug it in, check for damage. Enter your pickup code only when you’re satisfied; that is what releases payment.

  • Keep payment on UDrop

Never pay cash, Venmo, Zelle or Cash App outside UDrop. If someone asks you to, decline and report them.

  • Prohibited items

No weapons, alcohol, drugs or paraphernalia, prescription medication, counterfeit or recalled goods, or anything illegal to sell in your state.

If you are in danger or witness a crime, contact campus police or call 911. UDrop is a marketplace and is not an emergency service.

Questions

Safety, answered.

What does Buyer Protection cover?
Your payment is held until you confirm pickup with your code. If the item never changes hands you get everything back, and you can file a claim if it isn’t as described. Full details at udrop.co/buyer-protection.
What if the item isn’t as described?
Don’t enter your pickup code. Cancel the transaction and you’re refunded in full. You can also report the listing.
Can I get a seller’s phone number?
No, and that’s deliberate. Keeping the conversation and payment on UDrop is what makes the protection work for both of you.
What happens after I report someone?
Reports land in a moderation queue. Listings can be removed and accounts suspended. You can block the person immediately so they can’t reach you.
Is UDrop an emergency service?
No. If you are in danger or witness a crime, contact campus police or call 911.
